Which Short Course Tyres Are Best For The Beach?
With summer well and truly here, no doubt you’re heading to the beach sometime soon. But if you’re taking your Short Course truck with you, it’s well worth considering which tyres are going to best for the job. You may get away with your everyday multi-surface tyres but there’s every chance your trucks performance on loose sand won’t be quite as spectacular as you imagine. This leaves us with one question…
Which RC Tyres Are Best For RC Short Course Trucks On The Beach?
Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome those innovative souls over in the US at Pro-Line Racing. They produce a whole host of tyres to suit 1/10th Short Course trucks such as the 2 and 4wd Traxxas Slash, HPI Blitz, Losi Ten SCTE and many others. Their range caters for every possible surface you can imagine, including Sand.

If you want to get some serious speed up on loose sand in the summer and even snow in the winter, then you’ve got to get your hands on a set of Pro-Line Sling Shot tyres.
Pro-Line brings the classic sand-paddle concept seen on many Tamiya SRB buggies and indeed real dune racers to the land of RC short course trucks with the one-of-a-
kind Sling Shot tyre. These are perfect for both 2WD and 4WD short course trucks. Whilst they don’t provide the best side-to-side traction in the world, they certainly make easy work of sand and mud when running in straight lines, enabling you to throw up some serious Rooster Tails as you enjoy running your truck flat out on these fun surfaces.
Pro-Line Sling Shot tyres are made from the very durable XTR firm compound which helps ensure long life, and the moulded foam inserts support the Sling Shot’s 10-paddle design very well indeed. You can also buy them ready mounted on both standard and bead-lock Split Six rims to, reducing the time from shop to track no end!

The Perfect Pair
If your truck is a 4 wheel drive machine, then all you need are two pairs of Sling Shots and you’re good to go. For those of us (like me) who prefer the 2 wheel drive option, then pair them up with a set of Pro Line Mohawks on the front end.
These ribbed front wheel only tyres are exclusively designed for 2WD Short Course trucks with 2.2 x 3.0 inch rims, such as the Slash and Blitz. Unlike standard single-
rib designs, Pro Line Mohawk tyres feature have a unique two-stage dual rib, which is great in sand and snow too, plus it offers a sand dune buggy scale look which is an added benefit. They are available in Pro-Line’s long-lasting extrafirm red-compound rubber and come complete with molded inserts.
Just as with the Sling Shots, these tyres can also be purchased mounted on either standard or bead-lock Pro-Line Split Six rims.
